Missouri Plan to Invest $100M for EV Charging Stations

The Missouri Department of Transportation has submitted a draft report to federal officials outlining plan to add charging stations along the the interstate highway system. Officials say over $100 million will be spent on the electric vehicle charging stations as part of a national plan to increase the number of battery-powered care and trucks on the roadways.

Federal agencies have dedicated $5 billion over the next five years to help states build in the infrastructure needed to support electric vehicles, with a goal of 500,000 charging stations nationwide by 2030. Missouri is expecting to receive $14 million from the federal government for the projects.

Due to the time required to charge a vehicle, plans are to have amenities available for drivers while they wait for their vehicles to charge.   The plan calls for a charging station in Concordia on Interstate 70 with other potential sites in St. Roberts on Interstate 44; Lamar on Interstate 49 north of Joplin and Craig; and on Interstate 29 near the Nebraska border.

Missouri’s plan will be reviewed by the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation in September.
