A wildfire in Cape Coral around El Dorado Boulevard and SW 5th Terrace broke out Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Florida Forest Service Caloosahatchee, there are two FFS tractor plow units and local fire departments at the wildfire scene, which is about 10 acres in size.

So far, nobody has been evacuated from their home due to the fire.

The fire is about 70% contained at about 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Equipment is said to be the cause of the fire.

One family near the flames is keeping their sprinkler system on all night to create a buffer around their home from the flames.

WINK News spoke with Kiersten McCooley, who lives in the area, about the fire and the scene.

With the fire department, I felt a lot better. It looks like they were very prepared. Fire department was stationed every couple houses, ready at the fire hydrants just to put a blockade between that forest and the houses in the neighborhood. That made it a lot more safe. If there wasn’t firefighters, I really would have been panicking,” McCooley said.

The Cape Coral Fire Department said the fire started after someone using a lawnmower hit a piece of metal, causing a spark. They said that quickly ignited the fire spreading through the dry brush.

This is a developing situation, and WINK News will update this with more information when it becomes available.
